Vice President conveys condolences, assures maximum response after NTT earthquake

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has conveyed his condolences and concern to the communities affected by the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that shook East Nusa Tenggara and assured that the government will carry out maximum response efforts. “My thoughts and prayers are with all affected communities, especially families who have lost loved ones, suffered damage to their homes, or are still in difficult situations due to the disaster,” Vice President Gibran said in a statement received in Jakarta on Saturday. Regarding the earthquake that occurred in Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, the Vice President assured that the government will make maximum efforts to ensure emergency response, evacuation, and assessment of the disaster’s impact. He added that the government will move quickly and work to distribute aid to affected communities in a rapid and coordinated manner. “May all the people of East Nusa Tenggara be given strength and safety, and may the response and recovery process proceed as well as possible,” Gibran said. Earlier, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake shook Nagekeo Regency on Saturday morning. According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, the tectonic earthquake occurred at a depth of 15 kilometres, centred at sea 38 kilometres northeast of Mbay, Nagekeo, on Saturday at 04.58 Western Indonesia Time. Strong shaking was felt for approximately one minute in Nagekeo, Sikka, and West Manggarai, spreading to Bima in West Nusa Tenggara and several areas of South Sulawesi such as Jeneponto, the Selayar Islands, and Maros. The National Disaster Management Agency confirmed that as of Saturday morning, two people had died as a result of the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that shook Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre Berton SP Panjaitan in Jakarta on Saturday said the two fatalities were recorded in the El Say Port area, Sikka Regency.
