Vice governor opens church
JAKARTA (JP): Vice governor for people's welfare Museno said the church plays a pivotal role for Catholics to glorify the name of Jesus and instill deep religious feeling.
Apart from conveying religious missions, he said, the church can also be used as a place to inform congregations about national development, either spiritual or physical.
Museno made the remarks while inaugurating the Maria Kusuma Karmel parish church in South Maruya Kembangan, West Jakarta, on Sunday.
In a press release made available to The Jakarta Post the vice governor expressed his hope that the church would duly serve its main purpose of increasing religious feeling in god-fearing people, particularly those Catholics living in its vicinity.
Museno also asked the church to help with the government's efforts to create religious harmony among people embracing different religions in the country. (bas)
