Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) is committed to strengthening its tangible contributions to the wider community through local economic empowerment. This was demonstrated by collaborating with at least 100 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and partner villages during the Family Day event, the culmination of UMY’s 45th anniversary celebrations at the UMY Integrated Campus on Sunday, 24 May 2026.

Notably, UMY specifically featured Kiringan Jamu Tourism Village—one of UMY’s partner villages—which distributed approximately 1,500 servings of traditional jamu free of charge to thousands of attendees, including academic staff and local residents.

UMY’s 45th Anniversary Committee Chair, Cahyo Wisnu Rubiyanto, S.P., M.App.Sc., Ph.D., stated that this year’s Family Day was designed not merely as an internal entertainment event but as a concrete platform for collaboration between academia, the community, and external partners.

‘There are around 100 participating MSMEs, from within UMY, external partners, and partner villages. This year, we intentionally included Kiringan Jamu Tourism Village to showcase their local potential and promote a healthy lifestyle through 1,500 free jamu servings,’ Cahyo said during the event, according to a written statement.

Cahyo added that the active involvement of MSMEs aligns with this year’s anniversary theme, ‘Lead the Change, Light the World’, symbolising UMY’s maturity to drive change and create broader socio-economic impact nationally and internationally.

Similarly, UMY Rector Prof. Dr. Achmad Nurmandi, M.Sc., emphasised that the 45th anniversary marks a moment for reflection and reaffirmation of UMY’s social responsibility as a Muhammadiyah higher education institution.

‘UMY is now at a critical stage. We hope it continues to enrich the world, bringing peace, warmth, and intelligence to society. This contribution must be directly felt by the surrounding community,’ Prof. Nurmandi stated.

Beyond the MSME market and traditional jamu festival, the anniversary celebration included group gymnastics, tree planting, cultural parades, health talkshows, and artistic performances.

The enthusiasm of campus residents and locals, who filled the campus from morning to noon, peaked with the distribution of hundreds of attractive door prizes. As appreciation for the campus’s positive achievements throughout the year, the organising committee provided larger prizes than last year, including four motorcycles and 123 prizes from sponsors.

Through this inclusive networking space, the university known as ‘Muda Mendunia’ (Youthful and Global) successfully integrated its institutional anniversary into a community celebration that positively strengthens grassroots economy in Yogyakarta.
