Vibrant Takbir Procession in Bali Sees German Tourist Joining in Chants
Takbir chants echoed from Masjid Al-Hasanah in Tibubeneng Village, North Kuta, Badung, Bali, on Tuesday (26 May 2026). Amid thousands of Muslim residents participating in the procession, a German tourist joined in the chants, adding to the festive atmosphere of Eid al-Adha eve.
The local Muslim community group, Rukun Warga Muslim (RWM) Al-Hasanah, organises the annual Takbir procession simply. However, the mosque’s proximity to tourist areas creates a unique ambiance as foreign visitors often watch and join in.
Melany (27), a German national interviewed by detikBali, said it was her first time joining the Takbir procession. “It’s enjoyable; this is my first time participating,” she said after the event.
Known by her Islamic name Sakina, she expressed delight at the Tibubeneng Takbir atmosphere. A master’s student in Islamic Education at a Malaysian university, she noted the experience differed from her previous visits to Bali.
“I’ve visited Bali four times before, but this is my first time experiencing the Takbir here,” Sakina explained.
Nur Hasim (56), chairman of RWM Al-Hasanah in Tibubeneng, stated the procession is held annually but this year’s turnout was the largest. “The Takbir event has been held yearly, but this year was the most crowded,” he said.
According to Hasim, community enthusiasm grew as many foreign tourists joined the pre-Eid al-Adha takbir night celebrations on Wednesday (27 May 2026). “There are so many foreigners here that Masjid Al-Hasanah is dubbed Bali’s ‘foreigners’ mosque’ due to their numbers,” he added.
