Via Pakistan, Iran Hands Over New Negotiation Proposal to US
Iran has submitted a new proposal for talks with the United States through mediator Pakistan. This was reported by state media on Friday local time. “The Islamic Republic of Iran submitted its latest negotiation proposal text to Pakistan, as mediator in talks with the United States, on Thursday evening,” the official IRNA news agency reported, quoted from Arab News on Friday (5/1/2026). IRNA provided no further explanation. Thus, it is not yet clear what is included in the new proposal. Iran and the United States held one round of talks amid a fragile ceasefire after nearly 40 days of war triggered by US-Israel aggression on 28 February. The talks then stalled because the US imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports. Meanwhile, Iran continues to close the Strait of Hormuz, only allowing a few ships to pass through the waterway since the start of the war. On Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held telephone calls with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Iraq, and Azerbaijan. According to a ministry statement, the calls concerned “the latest initiative of the Islamic Republic to end the war”.
