Via Hajj Task Force, Polri to Eradicate Illegal Hajj Practices and Investigate Rogue Travel Agencies
Jakarta - Indonesian National Police (Polri) has emphasised that its primary focus within the Hajj Task Force is to eradicate illegal Hajj practices, protect pilgrims from fraud, and ensure security and order during the Hajj pilgrimage.
Head of the Polri Public Relations Division, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, stated that Polri’s involvement in the Hajj Task Force is conducted in an integrated manner with several institutions, from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Immigration to other relevant authorities.
“Polri’s role in the Hajj Task Force is highly strategic, encompassing prevention, operational security, and law enforcement against various violations,” said Isir in his statement on Wednesday (15/4/2026).
Additionally, Polri is focused on protecting pilgrims from various fraudulent schemes perpetrated by rogue travel agencies, including promises of departure without queuing and the use of inappropriate visas.
“Polri’s main focus in the Hajj Task Force includes eradicating illegal Hajj, protecting pilgrims from scams, ensuring security and order, and uncovering networks of rogue travel agencies,” he explained.
In the preemptive stage, Polri actively educates the public about the dangers of illegal Hajj, including outreach to encourage prospective pilgrims to use only official channels through the Ministry of Religious Affairs or Special Hajj Organisers (PIHK).
Meanwhile, preventive measures are implemented through strict monitoring of Hajj travel agencies.
Security is also provided at critical points such as Hajj dormitories, airports, and during the departure and return processes of pilgrims.
Isir explained that supervision of illegal Hajj is conducted in layers, from the administrative stage to departure.
The government ensures that the Hajj pilgrimage can only be performed through official channels, namely regular Hajj managed by the Ministry of Religious Affairs or special Hajj through licensed PIHK.
On the other hand, supervision is also tightened at airports through visa checks and travel purpose verifications by immigration and airport authorities.
