Veteran Yustedjo Tarik out, seeds go through
JAKARTA (JP): Former national men's singles champion Yustedjo
Tarik bowed out to junior Surya Wijaya 3-6, 6-1, 0-6 in the
second round of the 2001 Cigna Open Colors of Life at the Bung
Karno tennis complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday.
On Thursday's quarterfinals, sixth seed Surya will face third
seed Edy Kusdaryanto, who beat Yustedjo's trainee Imanuel Prabowo
6-2, 6-3 in the tournament which offers prize money of Rp 50
million (US$5,263).
Other seeded players continued to overpower their juniors. Top
seed Andrian Raturandang beat Samsudin Pare 6-2, 6-3 to set up an
encounter with eighth seed Dede Suhendardinata, who beat Cuk
Prihatmanto 6-0, 6-1.
Fifth seed Sebastian Da Costa ousted Irwan Radjab to challenge
Yusmawan Fahmi on Thursday. Yusmawan had no difficulties in
overcoming qualifier Sunu Wahyu Trijati 6-2, 6-0.
The other quarters will pit Prima Simpatiaji against Febi
Widhiyanto.
Seventh seed Prima beat qualifier Djanuar Radjab 6-4, 6-3
while Febi outclassed Tjahjono 6-3, 6-2.
Women's singles seeds also continued their winning grip. Top
seed Wukirasih Sawondari was no match for wild card entry Lenny
Komalasari and crushed the latter 6-1, 6-1. Wukirasih will face
the junior eighth seed Novianti Warsono, who beat Linda Arumsari
6-2, 6-2.
Veteran Eny Sulistyowati beat Margaretha Novianti 6-1, 6-2 to
meet junior Dewi Monica Siregar. Dewi, seeded six, beat Gemma
Yoselyn 6-0, 6-2.
Fourth seed Angelique Widjaja will meet fifth seed Dea
Sumantri. Angelique did not give a chance to Meritus Fitria Gani
and crushed her 6-1, 6-0 while Dea outclassed Uce Verianti 6-3,
6-2.
In other quarterfinals, senior Liza Andriyani will meet the
only qualifier Dian Anggraini. Liza beat Ida Sutedja 6-4, 6-3
while Dian thrashed Sian Arie Staria 6-1, 6-1.
In the women's doubles, Angelique and Dea beat Agustine
Limanto and Wukirasih 6-3, 6-2 to challenge veteran Irawati
Moerid Iskandar and Luky Tedjamukti. Irawati and Luky had a
relatively easy win over Rachmawati Siregar and Uce Verianti
because the latter retired when losing 0-3 in the first set.
Dewi and Ida will meet Eny and Liza in the other semifinals.
Dewi and Ida beat Bayunita Tampubolon and Mega Margaretha 6-4, 6-
1 while Eny and Liza blanked Meritus and Realian Krido 6-0, 6-0.
The men's doubles have just finished their first round
matches. Top seeded pair Andrian and Febi beat Ferza Gautama and
Prima 6-2, 6-4 to meet qualifiers Andery and Fandi Suyadi, who
beat Al Imron and Donny Romy 6-4, 7-5.
Yustedjo was also ousted from this event. Partnering Tjahjono,
they lost to Sebastian and Dede 3-6, 4-6. The latter will meet
Arianwan Poebo and Djanuar Radjab, who beat wild card pair Aditya
Danurwendo and Sunu 6-0, 6-1. (ivy)
