JAKARTA - The premium 250cc scooter market in Indonesia is presenting a highly competitive landscape following the launch of the Vespa GTS Super Tech 250 by PT Piaggio Indonesia. The Italian-made scooter directly challenges Honda Forza 250 from Astra Honda Motor (AHM). Notably, both premium models are priced almost identically. The Vespa GTS Super Tech 250 is priced at Rp97 million, while the Honda Forza 250 is slightly higher at Rp97.95 million (OTR Jakarta).

The design of both scooters offers distinctly different riding impressions on the road. The Vespa GTS Super Tech 250 retains a sturdy monocoque steel chassis. With a body length of 1,980 mm and handlebar width of 795 mm, it has a compact stance with a seat height of 790 mm. Its compact dimensions make the GTS Super Tech highly agile and nimble for manoeuvring through urban traffic congestion. Supported by a long wheelbase of 1,510 mm and a seat height of 780 mm, the 186kg scooter delivers exceptional stability at high speeds on highways.

For luggage utility, the Honda Forza 250 dominates with a spacious under-seat storage compartment capable of holding two helmets, equipped with new LED lighting. In contrast, the Vespa GTS Super Tech’s luggage space is more limited due to the monocoque steel body design that shares space with the engine.

In terms of engine performance, both premium scooters feature equivalent cylinder capacities but with contrasting engine philosophies. The Vespa GTS Super Tech 250 is equipped with a High Performance Engine (HPE) single-cylinder, 249cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled engine. It uses an overbore configuration with a piston diameter of 75 mm and stroke of 56.4 mm. This setup produces a maximum power of 16.5 kW (22.1 hp) at 7,750 rpm and peak torque of 22.1 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The HPE engine offers highly responsive initial pull, providing instant acceleration ideal for stop-and-go urban conditions. Its fuel tank capacity is 8.5 litres.

Meanwhile, the Honda Forza 250 is powered by an eSP+ SOHC 4-valve single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with a net capacity of 249 cc. Unlike Vespa, Honda opted for an overstroke configuration with a piston diameter of 67 mm and stroke of 70.7 mm.
