Vespa GTS 250 Safe for Ethanol Fuel, Cost per Tank Details
Jakarta - PT Piaggio Indonesia has formally launched its newest premium scooter for the domestic market, the Vespa GTS SuperTech 250. The arrival of this large-displacement motorcycle has immediately attracted scooter enthusiasts with its new engine performance and refined design. However, beneath the sophistication of its new 250cc High Performance Engine (HPE), there is a crucial fact for Indonesian riders: this Italian-made premium scooter is confirmed safe for bioethanol fuel blends.
Irvan Henrianto, Technical Training Manager at PT Piaggio Indonesia, stated that all modern Vespa models, including the GTSSuperTech 250, are designed to run on bioethanol. ‘For fuel, all our motorcycles can handle ethanol concentrations up to 10%,’ he said in Jakarta on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.
For example, Pertamina’s Pertamax Green 95 contains a 5% ethanol blend (E5), which is well below the maximum tolerance set by the Italian manufacturer. ‘Given current conditions in Indonesia, where Pertamina’s ethanol content ranges between 3.5% and 5%, our motorcycles are safe from ethanol-related issues,’ Irvan added.
thus, Vespa owners need not worry about premature damage to fuel tanks, hoses, or injection systems due to ethanol’s corrosive properties.
Despite being tolerant up to 10% ethanol, Piaggio Indonesia emphasises the importance of using high octane fuel. Riders are advised to check the Research Octane Number (RON) to ensure optimal HPE engine performance. ‘We recommend RON 95 or higher,’ Irvan stated.
Using petrol with RON 95 or above maintains stable combustion chamber temperatures, prevents engine knocking, and reduces carbon buildup in the 249cc engine.
