Vespa and Eid Trends: Sales Remain Stable Despite Holiday Period

JAKARTA — Ahead of Eid, motorcycle sales in Indonesia are generally considered to increase. However, data from the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) shows patterns that are not always consistent.

For instance, based on 2025 data, motorcycle sales were recorded at 560,301 units in January and rose to 581,277 units in February. However, during the Eid period falling around April, sales actually dropped significantly to 406,691 units, making it one of the lowest figures of the year. By July, sales increased again to 587,048 units.

This phenomenon demonstrates that on a monthly basis, the Ramadan and Eid period does not always represent the peak of sales. In fact, declines can occur because of holiday activities and reduced effective selling days.

A similar condition also applies to Vespa. Marco Noto La Diega, Managing Director and Country CEO of PT Piaggio Indonesia, stated that Vespa sales do not experience any special surge during the Eid period. Marco explained that the number of dealer operational days during Ramadan and Eid is indeed lower than in other months.

Nevertheless, when calculated on the basis of operational days, Vespa sales are actually higher compared to regular months, indicating that consumer interest remains strong despite shorter selling periods. “If you do not count those days (holidays) and look at the other days, daily sales are actually higher,” said Marco during a launch event on Monday (16 March 2026).

In total monthly terms, Vespa sales remain relatively stable without significant surges. Models such as the Sprint and Primavera remain popular among consumers, even dominating up to 60 per cent of total sales in Indonesia.
