Veronica Tan supports strengthening capacity for handling violence cases
Deputy Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Veronica Tan supports strengthening the legal skills capacity of law enforcement apparatus, Civil Servants (ASN), and paralegals in handling cases of violence against women and children.
“I fully support the plan for technical training on the implementation of preventing and handling sexual violence crimes, as it has integrated gender perspectives and vulnerable groups, victim protection, and prevention efforts through community socialisation,” said Deputy Minister Veronica Tan in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Capacity strengthening will be provided in the form of technical training on the implementation of preventing and handling sexual violence crimes.
This effort aligns with the implementation of the mandate of Law No. 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes (TPKS), which emphasises the importance of increasing the capacity of apparatus to ensure comprehensive protection oriented towards the best interests of victims.
According to her, the post-training actualisation process needs to measure its benefits through clear indicators, such as increased resolution of violence cases, increased public understanding of violence issues, and a decrease in violence rates against women and children.
“Our next task is to ensure that this training can be well implemented in the field so that its benefits can be felt by the community,” said Deputy Minister Veronica Tan.
Therefore, collaboration between the Ministry of Law (Kemenkum), the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), and the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) is important in guaranteeing the implementation of the TPKS Law.
“We, together with related ministries, have prepared training modules as guidelines for apparatus so that their implementation is increasingly optimal. The Ministry of Law has resources of around 83,000 legal aid posts spread to the village level. Through these legal aid posts, we can strengthen the capacity of paralegals with materials on protecting women and children from violence, while also supporting the realisation of safe migrant workers,” said Edward Hiariej.
