The verdict trial for University of Riau student and administrator of the Aliansi Mahasiswa Menggugat, Khariq Anhar, has been postponed for one week as the panel of judges has not yet completed its deliberations.

Khariq appeared for the hearing at the Central Jakarta District Court on Wednesday (30/9) regarding allegations of manipulating electronic information, specifically text overlaying, related to demonstration events in August 2025. The sentencing hearing is now scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, at the Central Jakarta District Court.

“Therefore, for that reason, we are postponing the decision for one week from now. It is postponed to Wednesday, the 7th, at 10:00 am,” stated the judge.

Khariq Anhar, who arrived at the Central Jakarta District Court on Wednesday morning, expressed disappointment regarding the delay. He stated that he wished to return home following a series of legal proceedings that have lasted for almost one year.

“I actually just want to go home quickly, friends. I travel 12,000 km every week to attend these trials, even through my graduation. However, I feel this is the most delayed trial I have ever experienced, and perhaps my friends do too,” Khariq said after the hearing.

Meanwhile, Usman Hamid, the Director of Amnesty International Indonesia, who was also present at the trial, described the postponement as a betrayal of justice.

“Today’s delay is not merely justice delayed, but justice betrayed! Khariq has had to travel 12,000 km round-trip for over a year, from his status as a student until now, having already graduated, yet he must still face this trial. Is that justice, friends?” said Usman.

In this case, the Public Prosecutor (JPU) believes Khariq is proven guilty of altering a post by the Chairman of the Labour Party, Said Iqbal, without permission. Khariq faces a prison sentence of six months.

The prosecutor argued that Khariq intentionally altered and added to screenshots of media reports regarding statements made by Said Iqbal. The prosecutor stated that Khariq performed a text overlay that contained incorrect information, which was then uploaded to the Aliansi Mahasiswa Menggugat social media account.

As a result of his actions, the prosecutor stated that Khariq violated Article 48 paragraph (1) juncto Article 32 paragraph (1) of Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions (UU ITE), as amended by Law 1/2024 juncto Law 1/2026 regarding Criminal Adjustments.
