Verdict Hearing for Nadiem Makarim in Education Laptop Case Set for 30 June

The Corruption Court (Tipikor) at the Central Jakarta District Court has scheduled the verdict hearing for the case of alleged corruption in the procurement of educational Chromebooks and Chrome Device Management (CDM) for the 2020-2022 fiscal year, with defendant Nadiem Anwar Makarim, on Tuesday, 30 June 2026. “Going forward, the panel of judges will deliberate. We had intended to read the verdict two days from now, on Thursday, but considering my health condition is somewhat impaired today, we need time to prepare it,” said Presiding Judge Purwanto S Abdullah after the rebuttal hearing in Jakarta on Tuesday (23/6). “We will proceed with the verdict hearing on Tuesday, 30 June 2026,” he continued. Purwanto stated that all matters, including the arguments of the parties, evidence, and legal arguments presented during the trial, will be fully considered in reaching a decision. He emphasised that the panel of judges will deliberate with a clear heart and firm conviction to deliver justice through the reading of the verdict. “The defendant is required to attend the hearing scheduled for Tuesday, 30 June 2026. The session is concluded and closed,” he said. Previously, public prosecutors from the Attorney General’s Office demanded that the panel of judges sentence Nadiem to 18 years in prison and a fine of Rp1 billion, with a subsidiary sentence of 190 days in prison. Nadiem was also ordered to pay restitution amounting to Rp809,597,125,000 (Rp809.5 billion) and Rp4,871,469,603,758 (Rp4.8 trillion), representing assets disproportionate to his legitimate income or suspected to originate from corruption. If the restitution is not paid, it will be replaced with an additional 9 years of imprisonment. According to the prosecutors, the facts revealed during the trial proved that Nadiem caused state losses in the procurement of Chromebooks and CDM for the 2020-2022 fiscal year.
