Verdict for Defendant in IDR 1.8 Trillion LPEI Corruption Case Scheduled for 22 June
The trial regarding corruption related to export financing from the Indonesia Export Financing Institution (LPEI) between 2014 and 2015, involving the owner of PT Sakti Mait Jaya Langit and PT Mega Alam Sejahtera, Hendarto, is approaching its final stage. The presiding judge is scheduled to read the verdict for Hendarto on 22 June.
“The session is adjourned; the next session will be held on Monday, 22 June 2026, at 14:00 WIB. The agenda is the delivery of the verdict,” stated the chairman of the panel of judges, Brelly Yuniar Dien Wardi Haskori, at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Wednesday (3/6/2026).
During today’s session, Hendarto presented his personal defence, or plea. He requested to be acquitted of the charges and the prosecution’s demands. “With all humility, I knock on the conscience of the Honourable Panel of Judges to deliver the fairest possible verdict for me, namely a verdict that acquits me of all charges or, at the very least, releases me from legal prosecution,” said Hendermarto.
Hendarto disclosed that he is experiencing heart health issues and requires ongoing medical treatment. Following the presentation of the plea, the prosecutors delivered their rejoinder, followed by the rebuttal from Hendarto’s legal team. “I request that the sentence be as fair and light as possible, considering my advanced age and the fact that I suffer from heart complications and have had three stents implanted, necessitating continuous medical care,” he added.
Previously, Hendarto was sentenced to an 8-year prison term by prosecutors. The prosecution believes Hendarto is guilty of corruption related to export financing from LPEI during the 2014-2015 period. “(Demanding the Panel of Judges) impose a prison sentence of 8 years on the defendant, Hendarto,” the prosecutor stated during the reading of the indictment at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (12/5).
The prosecution also demanded that Hendarto pay a fine of IDR 500 million, or alternatively, 140 days of imprisonment. Furthermore, the prosecution sought restitution of IDR 1.6 trillion and USD 14.95 million, or alternatively, 6 years of imprisonment. The prosecution noted that the restitution amount accounts for evidence already seized by the state and funds previously paid by Hendarto, totalling IDR 3.77 billion.
Aggravating factors in the prosecution’s argument include the assessment that Hendarto’s actions failed to support government programmes for eradicating corruption and enhancing national exports. Additionally, his actions were deemed to have damaged public trust in LPEI. Mitigating factors include the defendant’s family responsibilities and the fact that he has returned a small portion of the state’s losses.
