The distribution of sports venues for the National Sports Week (PON) XXII/2028 has finally been resolved. Various sports will be held across three provinces: West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and Jakarta.

A total of 22 sports were agreed upon for NTT, with NTB hosting 26 sports and Jakarta hosting 26 sports. This allocation was agreed upon during a PON 2028 preparatory coordination meeting held at the Indonesian National Olympic Committee (KONI) Centre on Friday (27/2/2026), bringing together representatives from NTB, NTT, and Jakarta.

NTB KONI Chairman Mori Hanafi stated that PON 2028 would adopt an efficiency concept by involving Jakarta as a supporting province. According to him, this approach was taken to prevent the PON 2028 implementation from being burdened by costly new venue construction.

“This decision was taken to maintain competition quality without forcing new infrastructure development in the regions,” said Mori in his statement Friday evening.

Mori said NTB, as one of the host provinces, would organise a total of 26 sports. The list of PON 2028 sports in the NTB region includes Olympic categories such as archery, athletics, basketball, rowing, golf, triathlon, beach volleyball, rock climbing, judo, and weightlifting.

“Additionally, KONI NTB has also successfully secured karate and several popular SEA Games sports such as diving, water skiing, e-sports, futsal, and soft tennis,” added the NTB-I electoral district member of the Indonesian Parliament.

Furthermore, nine host province privilege sports will continue to be pursued for hosting in NTB. These sports include pencak silat, Muay Thai, sport dance, hapkido, billiards, motorsports, aerosports, petanque, padel, and equestrian.

“We will continue to pursue privilege sports because they do not require new venues, thus aligning with PON 2028’s efficiency principle,” Mori added.

Mori explained that several sports initially planned for NTB and NTT were eventually moved to Jakarta. This adjustment was made because Jakarta was considered to already have adequate facilities.

Sports that will be relocated to Jakarta for PON 2028 include aquatics, fencing, gymnastics, hockey, shooting, cycling, and equestrian. There is also baseball/softball, tennis, rugby sevens, wrestling, ice skating, skateboarding, and bowling.

Meanwhile, NTT will host 22 sports for PON 2028. Several sports to be held in NTT include handball, indoor volleyball, kayaking, modern pentathlon, surfing, table tennis, cricket, badminton, football, taekwondo, and boxing, which are Olympic sports.

Additionally, there are two DBON sports including pencak silat and wushu. SEA Games sports such as kickboxing, sepak takraw, and chess. World Games sports including aerosports and weightlifting. NTT has also proposed several privilege sports such as kempo, gateball, horse racing, and barongsai.

“The list of PON 2028 sports allocation that has been agreed upon will subsequently be submitted to the Sports Minister for final approval,” Mori added.

NTT Vice Governor Johanis Asadoma also attended the coordination meeting regarding PON 2028 preparations. Asadoma explained that the sports distribution across the three regions was made after considering venue availability and PON 2028 implementation budget.

“We made the decision based on various considerations, such as venue availability as there is no budget assistance from the centre, athlete availability, potential for gold medal wins, and so forth. These were the considerations,” said Asadoma.
