Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 4,490

The number of fatalities from the earthquake that shook Venezuela on 24 June has risen to 4,490, President of the Venezuelan National Assembly Jorge Rodriguez said on Sunday (12/7), Xinhua News Agency reported. In a daily update posted on social media, Rodriguez said the number of injured remained at 16,740, while the number of people receiving aid increased to 120,794. In addition, authorities have set up 108 temporary shelter camps for those who lost their homes. A total of 31,837 Venezuelan personnel continue to be deployed for disaster management, supported by 2,422 international rescue personnel. Since the two successive quakes struck on 24 June, Venezuela has recorded 1,222 aftershocks, according to the update.
