Vendors, students clash with officers

JAKARTA: Street vendors in Salemba Raya, Central Jakarta and students from the Indonesian Christian University (UKI) clashed with Jakarta public order officers on Thursday evening.

One truck belonging to the officers was burned, while at least six others trucks were badly damaged.

The vendors and students were apparently angry with the way officers evicted vendors operating along Jl. Salemba Raya.

Take, a law student at the university, said that one public order officer had run into a UKI student, prompting other students to become involved in the brawl. --Antara
