Vendors face eviction for busway project

JAKARTA: More than 500 street vendors in Central Jakarta will be evicted to make way for the second and third busway corridors stretching from Pulogadung in East Jakarta to Kalideres in West Jakarta, via the National Monument.

The head of the Central Jakarta's Public Order Office, Sulaiman Bachtiar, told beritajakarta.com over the weekend that most of the vendors worked along Jl. Let. Jen. Soeprapto and Jl. Suryopranoto, and in the areas around Pasar Senen, Harmoni, Roxy, Lapangan Banteng and the Taman Ismail Marzuki arts center.

He said those areas should be cleared of street vendors before the Idul Fitri holiday on Nov. 5 and Nov. 6. -- JP
