Vendors disturb
Vendors disturb neighborhood
From Kompas
For almost 50 years there have been hundreds of sidewalk vendors operating in Rawa Badak Utara subdistrict, Koja district, North Jakarta. These vendors disturb our residential neighborhood, while a commercial center that was built for them is not being properly used.
Ditches on both sides of the road have been covered with wood so the vendors can set up their stalls on them, so when it rains it begins to flood in less than 15 minutes. Worse, they leave a mess of boxes, wooden planks and tables when they go home at the end of the day.
There is no space for neighborhood activities because of these vendors. Big tents put up for the vendors by the municipal administration, already partially worn out, make the Rawa Badak area even more stuffy.
Residents have spoken with representatives of the vendors and met with the North Jakarta mayor, but there has been no follow-up or settlement. Therefore, we request that the Jakarta governor look into this matter and take action so that we can enjoy our neighborhood.
