Vehicular emission
Vehicular emission
From Media Indonesia
I am very concerned about the air pollution prevailing in
Jakarta. One of the causes of pollution is emissions from buses.
Many buses emit black smoke from their exhaust pipes, and yet
they are allowed to operate freely in the city.
On June 22, 2000, which was the anniversary of Jakarta, I was
driving to my campus. A medium-sized Big Bird bus with plate
number B 7061 BW was in front of me. A sticker on the rear window
read: "The emission of this but is regularly controlled."
The funny thing was that the bus continued puffing out black
smoke from its exhaust. I was wondering what the sticker was for.
Was it there for decoration only?
This letter probably will not attract the attention of the
public because people are primarily concerned with economic
problems rather than the environment.
However, I would like to call on all fellow citizens and the
authorities to give greater attention to environmental problems
in this country.
