Vehicles banned near Senayan

JAKARTA (JP): Cars and motorcycles are no longer allowed to
drive or park on the main stadium ring road around Senayan,
chairman of the Gelora Senayan board of management Saptodarsono
announced yesterday.

The decision, effective yesterday, was made in order to turn
the street into a jogging area.

Drivers who used to park on the road should now use the
parking areas on Jl. Silang Tenggara, Jl. Silang Ramayana and Jl.
Silang Utara. Jl. Silang Barat Laut is only open to roller
bladers.

Many drivers, many obviously unaware of the new rule, were
seen yesterday parking at a distance and walking to the main
stadium area.

A postman said that he is hoping for special parking
privileges due to the quantity of mail he has to deliver in the
area.

"Without a motorcycle, it takes much longer to do my job," he
said while carrying a bag full of letters. (05)
