Vehicle thief shot to death

TANGERANG (JP): Tangerang Police detectives shot to death a member of a notorious vehicle theft ring and arrested two of his accomplices on Saturday in the Cikande area, Serang, an officer said.

According to Tangerang Police detectives chief Capt. Krisnadi, suspected criminal Hudari was fatally shot when attempting to resist arrest by shooting at officers.

While his two accomplices, Miswar and Amir, were easily arrested and handcuffed by the officers, another accomplice, Sarman, managed to escape, Krisnadi said.

"He's still at large," the officer said.

"Sarman is the one who knows where Hudari got the gun," he added.

The gun was seized and its origins are being investigated. The police believe the weapon was used in several crimes by the gang, Krisnadi said.

The theft of vehicles and accessories has increased significantly in several parts of Greater Jakarta, including Tangerang, over the past few weeks. (41/ylt)
