Vehicle tax payments in Bekasi can now be paid in instalments via cooperatives

The process of paying motor vehicle tax in Bekasi Regency, West Java, has become easier and more efficient as it can now be paid in instalments through cooperatives, meaning taxpayers no longer need to queue for hours at the local Samsat office. Through the innovative Samsat Koperasi Industri (Samkopi) and Samsat Koperasi Desa Merah Putih (Samkopdes) programmes, tax payments can be made at company cooperatives and village cooperatives spread across Bekasi Regency, said Head of Bekasi Regency Samsat Fajar Nugraha in Bekasi on Friday. He stated that the service innovation aims to provide convenience to the public, especially as this programme allows taxpayers to pay their obligations in instalments, thereby reducing the monthly expenditure burden. According to him, Samkopi is an appropriate innovation for Bekasi Regency, an area with the largest industrial zone. Currently, several large company cooperatives have joined the programme. Meanwhile, Samkopdes is already present in several areas such as Sukasari Village, Serangbaru District; Sukaresmi Village and Serang Village, South Cikarang District; and Pasir Gombong Village, North Cikarang District. It is also available in Karangsatria Village, North Tambun District; Jayamukti Village, Central Cikarang District; and Ragemanunggal Village and Kertarahayu Village, Setu District. Head of the Bekasi Branch Representative Office of PT Jasa Raharja, Eko Prasetyo, welcomed the innovation, stating it makes it easier for the public to pay their vehicle tax on time. “This is, in my opinion, the most humane part. Taxpayers can pay in instalments. They do not have to pay all at once. They do not have to wait until the full amount is collected before daring to come. The state is better off receiving tax paid in instalments and settled than waiting for a full tax payment that never arrives,” said Eko. Eko assessed that counters in village cooperatives can address the issues of distance and the public’s financial capacity through the instalment system. Service points at company and village cooperatives are also expected to provide a multiplier effect, such as increasing visits and transactions at the cooperatives. “Workers do not lose working hours, factory owners are happy because productivity is maintained, the local government is happy because revenue increases. Jasa Raharja carries out its mission to protect road users, the police ensure vehicle registration and identification are carried out properly, and most importantly, the public feels served, not burdened,” he said. He confirmed that the integrated system, through this mutually beneficial innovation, will make the public better protected while helping to realise orderly state administration. Head of Bekasi Regency Samsat Fajar Nugraha said that based on data up to May 2026, the total potential for local tax revenue from the motor vehicle sector reached more than 1.6 million units. Of that number, only 918,152 vehicles, or 56.01 per cent, are tax-compliant. Through the opsen scheme under the Law on Financial Relations between the Central Government and Regional Governments (HKPD), which has been in effect since January 2025, every rupiah of tax paid now flows more significantly into the regional treasury as Regional Original Revenue (PAD) to support development.
