Vehicle Sales Rise 22 Per Cent in February 2026
JAKARTA — Vehicle sales in Indonesia at the start of 2026 have maintained positive momentum, as reflected in February’s strong performance.
According to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers (Gaikindo), vehicle distribution from factories to dealerships in February 2026 reached 81,159 units.
On a year-on-year basis, this represented an increase of approximately 12.2 per cent compared to February 2025. On a monthly basis, performance also improved by around 22.1 per cent compared to January 2026.
However, retail sales showed a contraction of approximately 16.7 per cent compared to January 2026.
Putu Juli Ardika, chairman general of the Association of Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers, stated that the February sales achievement served as a positive signal for the national automotive industry.
According to him, this trend is expected to continue, particularly ahead of the anticipated surge in vehicle demand during the Eid holiday period.
“Early this year has been quite encouraging. Hopefully this represents a good signal, especially as demand for vehicles typically picks up ahead of Eid,” Putu told Kompas.com recently.
According to Putu, the industry outlook was based on evaluations of market performance over recent years, including sales trends at the beginning of the year, which are considered quite promising.
Historically, the period leading up to Eid has frequently been one of the peak seasons for vehicle sales in the domestic market, reflecting increased transportation needs among the public.
