Serang, Banten (ANTARA News) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla affirmed that the government would not provide land to the French automotive company, Renault SA, for free for investment in Indonesia.

The government will not provide land in this way, because other industries would also ask for land, he said after inauguating a ceramic factory of PT Arwana Citramulia in Serang, Baten on Friday.

According to him, the government will only provide facilities to companies wishing to invest in Indonesia. For example, a local government helps designate the location for industrial development or the land bought from the people on business to business basis.

"It means that the government provides a facility in such cases. The government will only act as facilitator but not provide land free to potential investors," he said.

Ranault SA has asked for 50 ha of land free for a car assembling plant in Indonesia with an investment of US$600 million.

Head of the Investment Coordinating Board M. Luthfi said the government will contact the local government to accommodate the intention of the investor.

"This means that each region with land for industry is given a chance to compete for securing the French project," he said.(*)
