Veda Ega Finishes Eighth After Starting in 20th Position at Moto3 Catalunya
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian racer Veda Ega Pratama showed impressive performance after finishing in eighth position at the sixth round of the 2026 Moto3 World Championship in Catalunya at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain, on Sunday, despite starting the race from 20th position.
The Honda Team Asia rider was able to break through the fierce competition in the middle and front groups and secure eight important points after crossing the finish line with a gap of less than one second from the race winner.
The race was won by racer Maximo Quiles from the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team with a time of 32 minutes 28.964 seconds. He narrowly beat Alvaro Carpe and David Munoz, who completed the podium positions.
Veda actually booked a 21st starting position from the qualifying session on Saturday (May 16). However, he benefited from a 12-place penalty imposed on a SIC58 Squadra Corse rider, so Veda started the race from 20th position.
The competition was fierce because the wide Barcelona circuit made overtaking occur almost at every corner. Veda briefly dropped to 14th position when there were two laps left in the race, but he was able to make an impressive recovery on the last lap to climb back up and finish in eighth position.
Meanwhile, Quiles performed extraordinarily after starting the race from seventh position. He received a track limit warning at one point, but he was still able to maintain his rhythm and take the leading position in a fierce duel in the final laps.
Racer Brian Uriarte, who had led for quite some time, had to settle for fourth place, while David Almansa completed the top five positions.
Malaysian racer Hakim Danish finished in seventh position, one spot ahead of Veda.
