Vault Containing 74 Kg of Gold Raided in Sentul Features Multi-Layered Security System, How Sophisticated Is It?
The Corruption Eradication Task Force (Kortas Tipidkor) of the Indonesian National Police, together with the Metro Jaya Regional Police, conducted a search at a house in the Parahyangan Golf 2 area, Sentul, Bogor Regency. During the search, police discovered a vault hidden in a wall. Inside the locked vault, they found seven suitcases containing gold bullion, US dollars, Singapore dollars, and cash in rupiah. “A locked vault was found, and after it was opened, it contained seven suitcases. The first contained 74 kilograms of gold bullion. Then USD 4,767,300. Then SGD 14,083,800. Then IDR 100. The total estimated value in rupiah is IDR 476 billion,” said the Head of Kortas Tipidkor, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, to the media early Thursday morning, 9 July 2026. A locksmith named Roy, who was brought in to help open the vault, stated that its security level was far higher than that of a conventional safe. Roy explained that the vault had a dual locking system, consisting of a rotary combination lock and a manual key lock. The combination of these two systems made it significantly more difficult to breach. Additionally, the material was constructed from two layers of steel. “It’s a special vault, a good brand. The security system is excellent, double steel, layered steel. It uses a combination and a manual key,” he said. Roy further revealed that the sophisticated security system placed the vault in a special category. Due to its advanced security features, the vault was estimated to be worth IDR 20 million. After attempting to break the manual locking part, Roy and the officers ultimately used a grinding machine to open the vault door. He said the process was relatively quick, taking about 15 minutes. Roy also disclosed that the vault was found hidden behind a wardrobe attached to the wall of a room on the second floor of the house. He noted that it did not look like a typical vault; what the officers found was a vault door leading to a fairly large storage room.
