Varta: Understanding SLI, EFB, and AGM Battery Technologies
Jakarta — Varta’s automotive battery business in Indonesia is reported to be experiencing continuous growth over the past year. This expansion has been supported by an expansion of distribution networks and an increase in customers across various regions.
“For Varta’s update in Indonesia, we have increasingly more customers. Our market here is also growing,” said Adrian when met in Jakarta on Saturday, 23 May 2026.
He stated that Varta’s business growth in Indonesia has nearly doubled compared to the previous year. However, Adrian acknowledged that this growth was also influenced by the company’s previously relatively small business base.
“Yes, almost double. Because we started from a small base, we can achieve 100 per cent growth,” he said.
In addition to expanding distribution, Varta is also preparing a refresh of its battery product packaging design, which is planned to be introduced at the end of 2026. According to Adrian, the change only targets the packaging design without changing the product specifications or quality.
“There is no change in the product itself, only the external packaging,” he said.
The new packaging is designed to make it easier for consumers to distinguish battery types according to their vehicle requirements. Each battery technology will use a different colour identity.
SLI or conventional batteries will use grey or standard blue colours. Meanwhile, EFB uses silver or blue, whilst AGM comes in gold or yellow.
“It makes it easier for customers to differentiate between SLI, EFB, and AGM,” Adrian said.
