Varied Responses from Jogja Residents Facing Pertamax Price Hike
Pertamina Patra Niaga has announced a significant increase in the price of its non-subsidised Pertamax fuel, by nearly Rp 4,000. In response to this hike, here are the varied reactions from Yogyakarta residents.
Based on monitoring by detikJogja at several petrol stations in Yogyakarta city around 11:00 WIB today, queues for Pertalite were still relatively normal, although they remained long. Meanwhile, queues for Pertamax were not immediately deserted. This condition was observed at the Pertamina Tugu 44.552.15 petrol station, the COCO Lempuyangan 41.551.01 petrol station, and the Pertamina Sentul Pakualaman 41.551.15 petrol station.
A resident of Bantul who works in Yogyakarta, Hanif, admitted he does not always use Pertamax. He observes the queue length and only opts for Pertamax if the queue for Pertalite is extremely long. “But if it goes up like this, I’ll just use Pertalite. The increase is quite noticeable, from Rp 12,000 to Rp 16,000. Yes, I will switch to Pertalite, I won’t use Pertamax for now,” explained Hanif.
The situation is different for Rudy, a resident of Sleman who also works in Yogyakarta. He admitted to using Pertamax every day. Even though the price has now increased, he says he will continue to use Pertamax. “The consideration is the engine. If I use Pertalite, the engine makes a clicking sound. It’s not good for the engine in the long run,” explained Rudy. “But if it goes up again, to almost Rp 20,000, then I would be forced to switch to Pertalite. Even at the current price, the difference is already quite significant,” he continued.
It was reported that the prices of non-subsidised fuels such as Pertamax and Pertamax Green suddenly increased as of 10 June 2026. The price of Pertamax has now reached Rp 16,250 per litre, an increase of nearly Rp 4,000 compared to the previous price of only Rp 12,300 per litre. Meanwhile, Pertamax Green is now being sold at Rp 17,000 per litre, up from the previous Rp 12,900 per litre.
Pertamina Patra Niaga explained the reason behind the sudden price adjustment. According to them, the decision was taken after an evaluation process in accordance with the pricing formula set by the government. “The adjustment to the prices of Pertamax and Pertamax Green was carried out after an evaluation process according to the pricing formula set by the government,” said Pertamina Patra Niaga Corporate Secretary Roberth MV Dumatubun in an official release.
