Vanimo incident to be investigated
JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: New Guinea Prime Minister Julius Chan has promised to conduct an investigation into the recent vandalism and looting of the Indonesian consulate building in Vanimo, Sandaun province.
Deputy chairman of the Indonesian delegates to a Joint Border Committee meeting in New Guinea, Izhar Ibrahim, told reporters on Friday about Chan's promise.
The promise was announced by chairman of the New Guinea delegates to the meeting, David Anogi, Antara reported.
"We welcome the initiative," said Izhar, who is also director general of political affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Activities have yet to resume at the consulate following the attack, which occured on Oct. 27. (imn)
