TANGERANG (JP): A group of about five armed men robbed a small
shop over the weekend, just weeks after a massive police
operation was to have rid the city of preman.
According to Vinawati, the 33-year-old shop owner, two of the
five broke into her shop, which is also used as her residence, at
around 4 a.m. Thursday wearing masks and brandishing guns and
other fierce weaponry.
"One them pointed his gun at my one-and-a-half-year-old son,
while the other one put his sickle around my neck and asked my
husband, Aman, 34, to show them where our money and valuable
things were," she told The Jakarta Post.
Her younger brother, 20-year-old Andre, who lives with the
family, was slightly beaten by the robbers as he tried to defend
his family.
"I saw two or three people waiting outside," Vinawati added.
According to her, the group left the house along with Rp 3
million (US$1,319) cash, 40 grams of gold jewelry, watches, a 21-
inch television set and a radio pager.
The family has a maid and a driver, who live with them at
their house on Jl.Layar Raya 44 at the Bumi Kelapa Dua housing
complex in Curug.
Tangerang police detectives are still investigating the case.
