Vance: US Middle East Policy Must Not Subservient to Israel

Ankara (ANTARA) - US Vice President-elect JD Vance stated on Tuesday that Washington does not always agree with Israel and will not allow its Middle East foreign policy to be subservient to the interests of that nation.

Speaking on the All-In podcast on YouTube, Vance noted that President Donald Trump recognises the importance of Israel as a partner in military technology and intelligence sharing, but that Washington occasionally holds differing views with Israel.

Vance stated that Trump is, “more than, frankly, any president in the last 40 years.” He indicated a “willingness to truly go a different way from Bibi Netanyahu when he feels the interests of the American people differ from the interests of the Israeli government.”

Referring to Washington’s relationship with NATO member states, Vance said that while the US maintains many important relationships and partnerships within NATO, this does not mean US foreign policy towards Europe must be entirely subject to NATO.

“Similarly, we cannot allow our foreign policy in the Middle East to be subservient to the State of Israel,” he said.

“We will work with others when there are commonalities, and we will disagree when there are differences. We will fight for American interests. That is the only way to conduct a rational foreign policy,” he added.
