Vance: US-Iran and Lebanon-Israel Deals Guarantee Lebanon's Territorial Integrity
The two documents both state that the territorial integrity of Lebanon will be respected.
Washington (ANTARA) - United States Vice President J.D. Vance has stated that the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the US and Iran, as well as the Israel-Lebanon peace agreement, both guarantee the territorial integrity of Lebanon.
“You could even argue that if the Lebanon-Israel peace agreement is aligned with the MoU signed between the United States and Iran, then fundamentally both documents state that Lebanon’s territorial integrity will be respected,” Vance said in an interview released on Tuesday (30/6).
Vance noted that the direct communication now established between Israel and Lebanon did not exist a few months ago. He added that both nations now generally share an alignment of views.
“So, the situation has indeed changed. The question now is whether this change will endure in the long term,” Vance remarked.
Leader of the Hezbollah movement, Naim Qassem, stated that the US-mediated agreement is non-binding and described it as a “loss of sovereignty.”
The agreement includes the establishment of a security zone for Israel in southern Lebanon and, according to Israeli authorities, the full disarmament of Hezbollah in Lebanon.
In the early hours of Thursday (18/6), Iran and the US signed a Memorandum of Understanding remotely to regulate the cessation of military conflict.
The memorandum also establishes a schedule for the United States to lift its naval blockade and for Iran to restore shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
