Vance reveals technical details delaying publication of US-Iran MoU

Washington (ANTARA) - US Vice President JD Vance has said the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran has not yet been published because several technical details still need to be resolved. “There are some technical details that need to be worked out, not related to the substance of the MoU itself, but to its implementation,” Vance told NBC News, as reported by RIA Novosti on Tuesday. He added that Qatar and Pakistan have been very helpful in facilitating the agreement. The US wants Iran to benefit if it complies with the terms agreed in the deal, he said. “If Iran complies with the terms of the deal, there will be benefits that flow to them and that’s what we hope for,” Vance said. He said he wants to see Iran become a successful country and act like a normal nation. “But that will only happen if they do the things that are necessary to commit in the long term to not developing a nuclear weapon,” he stated. “The fact is, a core part of the deal is that the IAEA and the United States will help Iran destroy its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, and that is made very clear,” he said. He also said nuclear inspectors will be allowed back into Iran. On Sunday, President Donald Trump and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed that the memorandum of understanding had been finalised. The document is scheduled to be formally signed in Switzerland on 19 June after both sides signed it digitally on Sunday.
