Van Gastel wants PSIM to end their final home game with a win
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PSIM Yogyakarta coach Jean-Paul van Gastel wants his team to end their final home game of the BRI Super League 2025/2026 against Madura United at the Sultan Agung Stadium in Bantul on Sunday (17/5), with a win.
“I certainly want to win tomorrow’s match against Madura United,” said Van Gastel, quoted from the official I.League website, Saturday.
PSIM will have to work extra hard if they want to achieve that victory. This is because Madura United is highly motivated to earn three points in order to secure their position in the top tier next season.
Madura United is currently still in 15th place in the standings with 32 points, only one point ahead of Persis Solo who just defeated Dewa United Banten FC 1-0 on Saturday.
With Madura United having two games left, only a win against PSIM will guarantee their safety in the Super League. If they fail to win, then Madura’s fate will be decided in the last week of matches.
“They (Madura) will definitely play all out because they need to win to maintain their distance from Persis Solo,” said Van Gastel.
Van Gastel admitted that Madura United is not an easy opponent to beat because they have performed better in the second round, with four wins in their last six matches.
Meanwhile, PSIM, who are in 11th place with 42 points, arrived at this match in a good mood after returning to winning ways, following three points they earned at home when they defeated Malut United with a score of 2-0.
“In the Indonesian League competition, there are no easy matches because every team is very competitive. Madura United has also collected many points at the end of this season by playing low block and transitioning. Of course, it will be very difficult to face a team that plays like that at any level,” said Van Gastel.
