Van crashes into stationary bus, 17 killed
An accident occurred when a passenger bus travelling from Swat to Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province experienced engine failure and stopped on the roadside. Passengers had exited the bus and were waiting nearby when a van lost control and collided with the crowd and the stationary bus. βAt least 17 people have died and over 10 are injured,β said Bilal Ahmad Faizi, a rescue official quoted by AFP on Monday, 25 May 2026. He added that three of the injured are in critical condition. Muhammad Ali, a doctor at the local hospital treating the victims, confirmed the death toll. Many passengers were travelling home ahead of Eid al-Adha at the time of the incident. Traffic accidents remain frequent in Pakistan due to weak traffic law enforcement, speeding, poor road safety standards, and reckless driving.
