Vale Indonesia Addresses Nickel Price Fluctuation Challenges
Vale Indonesia President Director Bernardus Irmanto has stated that mining is fundamentally good and represents the backbone of civilisation.
“I always say that mining is good, that mining is the backbone of civilisation. I am not then saying that all mining practices are good. So what should be opposed is not mining itself, but rather poor mining practices. Because if the practices are sound, then environmental impacts will certainly be managed properly,” Irmanto explained.
Irmanto also noted that nickel prices are currently experiencing fluctuations. He stated that Vale Indonesia has already developed a strategy to address the matter.
“We must be concerned about this — we need to build an ecosystem around nickel,” he said.
