Vacant Land in Ngaglik, Sleman Catches Fire
A fire broke out on a vacant plot of land in Kalurahan Sariharjo, Randugowang, Tegalsari, Ngaglik, Sleman, on Tuesday afternoon. The flames were fanned by strong winds.
The incident was reported on the X account @merapi_uncover. The post showed thick smoke billowing from the fire site.
“[Breaking News] 14:42 sugarcane field on fire behind the Mirota Palagan warehouse this afternoon (18/8/2026),” the account wrote, as seen by detikJogja on Tuesday (18/8).
Sleman Police Public Relations Head, Iptu Argo Anggoro, said the incident occurred at around 1 p.m. WIB on Tuesday (18/8). Strong winds and an abundance of dry grass caused the fire to spread rapidly to the surrounding plantation area.
“The fire was discovered at around 1 p.m. WIB after a witness saw flames burning the land, which was in an abandoned condition,” Argo said when contacted by detikJogja.
“The fairly strong wind conditions and the large amount of dry grass caused the fire to spread quickly to the surrounding plantation area,” he continued.
Argo added that firefighters then arrived at the scene. The fire was successfully extinguished at around 3 p.m. WIB.
“Residents then contacted the Sleman Regency Fire Department. Firefighters together with residents carried out firefighting efforts until the fire was brought under control at around 3 p.m. WIB,” he said.
Argo noted that there were no material losses as a result of the incident. Officers are still investigating the exact cause of the fire.
“There were no fatalities or injuries in the incident. Police are still gathering information to determine the exact cause of the fire,” he concluded.
