VA to fly direct to Tokyo

HANOI (AFP): The state-run Vietnam Airlines will open direct
flights to Tokyo in Japan in November, a Vietnam Airlines
official said Wednesday.

The new route from Ho Chi Minh City to Tokyo and vice versa is
expected to serve four times a week, the official said.

In the same month, the airline will also resume six direct
flights a week from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Seoul in South
Korea.

For the last two years, Vietnam Airlines has canceled or
reduced flights on several domestic and regional routes including
Hanoi-Seoul, Hanoi-Taipei, Hanoi-Hong Kong and Ho Chi Minh City-
Seoul to stem mounting losses due in part to the regional
financial crisis.

Vietnam Airlines is now operating direct flights to 18
destinations worldwide.
