"Uzur" angkot on Salabenda–Pasar Anyar route, Bogor, catches fire as explosion heard

Bogor, Kompas.com - A public minibus on route 16 Pasar Anyar–Salabenda caught fire on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman in Bogor City on Thursday, 21 May 2026. The head of the Transport Service at Bogor City’s Department of Transportation (Dishub), Dody Wahyudin, said the minibus was over 20 years old, dating from 2002. ‘Yes, the minibus is old, on the Salabenda–Pasar Anyar route, dating from 2002,’ Dody told Kompas.com on Thursday. At the time, it was heading toward Pasar Anyar and had dropped off two passengers before the minibus caught fire. ‘The flames suddenly appeared at the back. And I heard an explosion. I thought a tire had blown, but it wasn’t,’ Agus said on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman on Thursday, 21 May 2026. Meanwhile, Theofilio Patrocinio Freitas, head of the Bogor City Fire Department, said that the fire began when the fire spread from the battery to the car seats. ‘The fire started from the battery and spread to the seats, causing the fire,’ he said in a written statement on Thursday. Earlier, a different minibus on route 08A, believed not roadworthy, caught fire at Jembatan Satu Duit Jambu Dua in Bogor Utara Sub-district on 1 May 2026. The head of the Transport Division at Dishub Bogor City, Dody Wahyudin, said the bus burned due to an electrical short circuit. ‘As usual, electrical faults (are the cause),’ Dody said when contacted. He noted that the burned minibus was indeed not roadworthy, and its age had exceeded 20 years.
