Uya Kuya Reports on the Spread of Hoaxes on Social Media

Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Surya Utama or Uya Kuya, has reported suspected dissemination of false information or hoaxes to Polda Metro Jaya, stemming from accusations that he possesses 750 MBG kitchens. Uya’s report was received by the police and registered under number LP/B/2746/IV/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA on 18 April 2026. “Yes, it’s true, (the report concerns) the spread of false news,” said Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Budi Hermanto, when confirmed on Sunday (19/4). According to the report, Uya, as the reporter and victim, stated that this legal action was taken after he saw posts on several social media accounts on 18 April. Those accounts uploaded an edited photo of Uya with a caption claiming that he owns 750 MBG kitchens, which is false news or a hoax. On that basis, Uya feels harmed and has filed a police report related to Article 51 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 35 of the ITE Law, and/or Article 263 of the Criminal Code, and/or Article 264 of the Criminal Code. Budi conveyed that Uya’s report is currently under further investigation by Polda Metro Jaya.
