Utut wins in Vietnam

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian Grand Master (GM) Super Utut Adianto made a good start in the Zone 3.2A Asia Championships in Vietnam beating International Master (IM) Petronica Rona of the Philippines on Sunday.

GM Eugene Torre, also of the Philippines, only managed a draw against Sebastien S., according to a press release sent by Kristianus Liem of the Indonesian Chess Association on Monday.

Utut is among the 32 chess players competing in the championships which started on Sunday and ends on May 29.

Eight countries are taking part in the eight-day tournament. They include Indonesia, the Philippines, host Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Mongolia.

Vietnam has the most participants with 11 players followed by the Philippines (9), Indonesia (4), Malaysia (2), Myanmar (2), Mongolia (2), Thailand (1) and Singapore (1). (lnt)
