Utut triumphs at chess tournament
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian Grand Master Super Utut Adianto was unbeatable on Friday against six opponents in a simultant chess tournament at Ibis Hotel Mangga Dua.
Utut took three-and-a-half hours to beat the six players. They were Sigit Wijayanto, Kiu Sen, Ramli, Robin Harjono, Rosita Latief and Yundi Dwiguna.
The quickest game lasted only 15 minutes against Sigit, a Gadjah Mada University student. University student Yundi was able to hold off Utut for 65 minutes. Utut's other wins were clocked in at 20 minutes (against Ramli), 40 minutes (Robin) and 50 minutes (Rosita).
The six players are finalists from tournaments held at six Ibis hotels which began on Sept. 30 in Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Surabaya. The Hotel Arcadia also participated in the tournament.
Rosita won at Ibis Slipi, Ramli at Ibis Cikarang, Kiu Sen at Ibis Mangga Dua and Ibis Kemayoran, Yundi at Ibis Tamarin and Hotel Arcadia, Sigit at Ibis Malioboro, Yogyakarta, and Robin at Ibis Rajawali, Surabaya.
The six players are currently competing in the grand final which runs until Sunday. A total cash prize of Rp 15 million is being offered by the organizer. (lnt)
