Utut to boost his elo rating

JAKARTA (JP): In his effort to notch an elo rating of 2,600,
Grand Master Utut Adianto, currently Indonesia's number one chess
player, will challenge about 40 of the world's best grand masters
at the US$100,000 New York Open between April 12 to 16.

Utut, whose previous elo rating was 2,585 as registered at the
world chess body FIDE, increased his rating to 2,595 during last
year's Moscow Chess Olympics. He is now on the prowl for just
five more points. If he gets them, Utut will become the third
player in Asia to reach 2,600, after GM Viswanathan Anand of
India (2,715) and Uzbekistan's GM Nenasev (2,605).

Between April 5 to 10, Utut will play at New York's Marshall
Chess Club where he, together with three American grand masters,
will take on four international masters shortlisted from 10. Utut
is the only non-American player selected to play at the
prestigious club. (arf).
