Utut eliminated from world c'ships

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian Grand Master Utut Adianto was eliminated from the World Chess Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada, after suffering two defeats at the hands of International Master Daniel Fridman of Latvia.

Suara Pembaruan daily reported Utut lost to Fridman on Sunday and Monday.

In Sunday's game, Utut surrendered in the 21st move, while in the game on Monday he lost in the 35th move.

Utut blamed his two defeats on the numerous errors he committed. "I was in a good position in the first and second games, but I made too many blunders."

Utut, however, said Fridman played well.

"I am really disappointed with my defeats, but I admit Fridman played well."

Utut's elo rating is 2,607, while Fridman's is 2,526. (lnt)
