Utut bows out to Ye

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian chess Grandmaster Utut Adianto bowed out to Chinese GM Ye Jiangchuan in the seventh leg of the sixth Tan Chin Nam Cup at the Hua Yuan hotel in Beijing on Saturday evening.

Utut, playing black, used the Modern defense against Ye's e4 opening.

"The 9..a6 and 10..b5 apparently was a bad plan. It would have been better to use the conventional way by waiting," he said, as quoted by Kritianus Liem by fax.

Utut lost in the 57th move after playing for four hours and 45 minutes.

"I think Utut needs a new coach or equal sparring partner if he wants to improve himself in the 16 category tournament," said the Indonesian Chess Association (Percasi) official in charge of athletes development Eka Putra Wirya. (yan)
