Tangerang (ANTARA) - Obstetrics and Gynaecology Specialist at Eka Hospital MT Haryono, Dr. Sita Ayu Arumi, said that in certain conditions, fibroids can be treated through removal surgery while preserving the uterus.

She said that currently, treatment for large fibroids and cysts can be carried out accurately without having to remove the uterus through robotic gynaecological surgery techniques, with faster recovery.

“The choice of procedure must still be determined based on the size, number, and location of the fibroids or cysts, the patient’s health condition, as well as pregnancy plans,” said Dr. Sita Ayu Arumi in Tangerang on Wednesday.

It should be noted that fibroids are benign lumps that grow from the uterine muscle, while ovarian cysts are sacs that can contain fluid or tissue and grow in the ovaries, often not causing symptoms in the early stages.

Some of the main advantages of robotic surgery include high precision, flexibility of the robotic arms, smaller incisions and minimal scarring, potentially lower pain and bleeding, as well as relatively fast recovery.

“If a patient is diagnosed with fibroids, large cysts, or is advised to undergo a hysterectomy and wishes to obtain a second medical opinion, then robotic surgical technology could be an option,” she said.

As an obstetrics and gynaecology specialist with a focus on Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS) and reproductive health, Sita continued, the procedures and patient preparation before robotic surgery include diagnostic examinations, pre-operative health screening, surgical procedures, and hospitalisation according to each patient’s condition.
