USU Student Expelled Following Sexual Harassment Allegations

The University of Sumatera Utara (USU) has provided an update regarding a sexual harassment case involving a student from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) with the initials CHS. USU has imposed a sanction of dismissal on CHS.

“Through this decision, the Rector has imposed a severe administrative sanction in the form of permanent dismissal as a student, or drop out. With the enactment of this decision, the individual concerned no longer holds the status of a student at the University of Sumatera Utara and loses all academic and non-academic rights and obligations attached to that status,” said the Head of the USU PPK Task Force, Meutia Nauly, on Monday (3/8/2026).

Meutia stated that the report of alleged sexual violence in this case was first received by the USU PPK Task Force on 19 July 2026. Since the report was received, the USU PPK Task Force immediately conducted a thorough examination of the reporters or victims, witnesses, companions, related parties, as well as relevant documents and evidence.

“Based on the overall results of the examination, the statements of the parties, documents, and evidence obtained, the USU PPK Task Force concluded that the reported individual was proven to have committed several forms of sexual violence,” she said.

Meutia explained that the forms of sexual violence committed by CHS included making statements that discriminate against or harass the physical appearance, body condition, and/or gender of the victim. CHS was also proven to have made seductive remarks or statements of a sexual nature, sent sexually suggestive content even though it was unwanted or prohibited by the victim, and engaged in physical contact of a sexual nature without the victim’s consent.

“The results of the examination also showed a pattern of repeated actions against more than one victim, various forms of sexual violence carried out in layers, including physical acts and coercion of sexual activities that impacted the sense of safety of the campus community,” Meutia explained.
