USU Strengthens International Network with Kyoto University's CSEAS
Medan (ANTARA) – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) welcomed an academic visit and strategic meeting with the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) Kyoto University, Japan, in an effort to strengthen cross-disciplinary international research collaboration.
USU Rector Muryanto Amin in Medan, on Wednesday, said the linkage is an important step to open broader opportunities for collaborative research between the two institutions, in the form of research cooperation, international publications, researcher exchanges, and the development of academic capacity.
‘The cooperative relationship between USU and Kyoto University has so far been established very well, particularly in the field of political science through collaborative research with Professor Okamoto. The collaboration is regarded as a strong foundation to broaden cooperation in other fields,’ he said.
He hopes that the successes achieved in the field of political science can be followed by research collaborations in other fields that have great potential for joint development.
Through the meeting, USU reaffirmed its commitment to continue expanding international networks and improving research quality through collaboration with various universities and world-renowned research centres.
From Kyoto University, a number of researchers from various scientific fields attended who have been actively conducting research in Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia.
In the academic discussion session, researchers from Kyoto University outlined the various research foci and areas of expertise they hold.
The areas discussed included energy policy transition and migration, social research, peatland, virology, media and public relations, mangrove ecosystems, marine science, and other strategic issues relevant to current global challenges.
