USU Rector: Lecturers Must Adapt to Technological Developments
Medan (ANTARA) - The Rector of the University of North Sumatra (USU), Professor Muryanto Amin, has emphasised that lecturers and academic leaders within the university must be able to adapt to continuously evolving technology.
“The world is facing very rapid changes; therefore, lecturers and academic leaders must be capable of adapting to technological developments,” he stated during the inauguration of several heads and secretaries of study programmes at USU for the 2026–2031 period at the USU Student Arena, Medan, on Wednesday.
He noted that the utilisation of technology is no longer an option but a necessity to support the learning process in higher education. Technology must be utilised optimally to create teaching and learning processes that are effective, innovative, and relevant to contemporary needs.
“I am calling upon all lecturers; technological developments have changed many aspects of life, including the world of education. Therefore, we must be able to utilise technology as part of the learning process so that the quality of education continues to improve,” he said.
On this occasion, he also encouraged all lecturers to continuously enhance their personal capacity and never stop learning. Adapting to the changing times is one of the keys to ensuring that higher education institutions can produce graduates with high competitiveness.
He expressed hope that every lecturer would be able to build good communication with students, ensuring that the teaching and learning process focuses not only on delivering material but also on fostering creativity, critical thinking, and the development of student competencies.
“We must understand what the needs of students are today. Learning methods must be continuously adjusted to the era so that classroom learning becomes more engaging, interactive, and provides a meaningful learning experience,” he said.
He also reminded those newly inaugurated to build a collaborative work culture in performing their duties.
Progress within study programmes or the university, he noted, cannot be achieved individually, but rather through solid cooperation between leaders, lecturers, educational staff, students, and various stakeholders.
He also hoped that the newly appointed officials would bring innovation, strengthen academic governance, improve the quality of education, and expand cooperation networks to support the achievement of university targets at both national and international levels.
The inauguration served as a momentum to strengthen USU’s commitment to building an academic environment that is inclusive, adaptive to technological developments, and upholds the spirit of collaboration.
The diverse backgrounds of the newly appointed officials also reflect that unity in diversity is an important asset in advancing the university.
